By the end of 2018, China had 98,000 enterprises and 2.704 million employees, with a total output value of 1.27 trillion yuan and a total asset of 1.52 trillion yuan. In the 43 categories of culture and related industries, the revenue of printing enterprises above designated size has accounted for 7.2% of the revenue of enterprises above designated size in the national culture and related industries.
The U-shaped Development Trend Has Basically Emerged
In recent years, the growth rate of China's printing industry has slowed down year by year, dropping below double digits to 9.60% in 2012. From 2013 to 2015, the following growth rates were 9.34%, 5.30% and 3.60% respectively. By 2016, the growth rate will hit a new low in recent years, reaching 2.7%. Then it bottomed out and rebounded, with the printing industry growing at 4.60% and 5.40% respectively in 2017 and 2018. The "U" type development trend has basically emerged, and the growth rate of 5.40% has also reached a new high since 2014.
Output Value Per Capita Reaches New High
If we take a 10-year period, we can see the drastic changes taking place in China's printing industry.
In 2009, the total output value of China's printing industry was only 636.77 billion yuan, currently rising to 1.27 trillion yuan, a growth rate of about 100%. The number of printing workers dropped from 3.833 million in 2009 to 2.74million in 2018, a decrease of more than 1 million in absolute terms. The number of printing enterprises decreased from over 100,000 in 2009 to 98,000 in 2018. The decrease in the number of enterprises in the past 10 years is not obvious. However, the per capita output value of the industry increased from 170,000 yuan in 2009 to 470,000 yuan in 2018. The per capita output value reached a new high, increasing by more than 176%.
Intensive, Sustained And In-depth Development
By the end of 2018, the total output value of China's printing and packaging enterprises with an annual output value of more than 50 million yuan was 766.1 billion yuan, accounting for more than 60% of the total output value of the printing industry. The growth rate, intensity and production efficiency of China's printing industry have all reached a five-year high.
The intensive development of China's printing industry can also be shown by the following data: the total output value of the top 100 printing and packaging enterprises in 2018 is 130.4 billion yuan. 100 enterprises account for only 0.01% of all printing enterprises, but the total output value accounts for more than 10%.
The Growth Rate Of Key Enterprises Above Designated Size Accelerated
The growth rate of 5.40% is the average growth rate of all 98,000 printing enterprises. According to statistics, in 2018, the total output value of key enterprises above designated size (with output value exceeding 50 million yuan) increased by 10.6% from 692.6 billion yuan last year.
In addition, according to the top 100 reports published by the "Printing Manager" magazine, 2019, the sales revenue of China's top 100 printing and packaging enterprises increased by more than 10.8% year-on-year, a figure slightly higher than the growth rate of key enterprises above designated size.
